This moment marks the first achievement of our public health revolution—a project that has been one of my most cherished goals. Modern medical facilities are essential for protecting the lives and health of our people. While our public health system is people-oriented, its material and technical foundation has lagged behind. For this reason, we planned and prepared for years to build a first-class hospital that would serve as the backbone of the sector. The Pyongyang General Hospital meets modern architectural and health standards. Its specialized facilities and advanced equipment provide a safe, scientific, and comfortable environment for patients. Though costly, the result is a perfect medical center that reflects the sincerity of the Party toward the people. Difficulties arose during construction due to undisciplined and fame-seeking behavior, but we overcame them, defending the people-first character of Party policy. This hospital embodies the Party’s sincerity and commitment to the people. I extend special thanks to the soldiers, workers, designers, and staff who made this possible, and congratulate the medical personnel who will now serve the people here. Our Party’s strategy for modernizing public health is to advance all aspects simultaneously—central and regional hospitals, healthcare facilities, services, training, and research. This hospital will serve as a hub for diagnosis, treatment, scientific study, and education, guiding and supporting other medical institutions nationwide. As we prepare for the hospital’s operation, medical workers must familiarize themselves with advanced equipment and systems to deliver high-quality service. They should continuously learn and apply the latest medical techniques, organize training and academic exchanges, and work with foreign institutions to improve skills and service standards. We must also reform outdated laws, structures, and management methods that hinder progress. The hospital will pioneer rational and effective approaches to meet the people’s needs, setting models for others to follow. Revolution means replacing the old and backward with the new and advanced, and this transformation is essential for real improvements in people’s health. The Ministry of Public Health has remained stagnant, lacking initiative and standards, as shown even in simple matters like designing medical uniforms. This must change. We will create specialized institutions for hospital design and public health development and begin building a second general hospital in Pyongyang, along with modern hospitals in provincial areas. Public health is as vital as national defense. A state that cannot protect the lives and health of its people cannot be strong.
