And where do you park? In the airport parking lot and have to walk miles to your job?

yes you apply to the airport location, you get paid about 2 dollars more. I got 18/hr instead of 16 at panda express at the airport. it can vary. it takes a lot of interviews and security clearances to get the job, a drug test, finger printing, and an airport badge. you have to take a shuttle bus to work from the employee parking lot outside the airport and you need a parking pass and an ID to get in the employee lot. you don’t clear normal TSA, you take an employee screening wear you scan your face and badge and put your belongings through a scanner and walk through some machine. There’s virtually no line. you can bring liquids that are sealed if any amount and you’re allowed to bring your own lunch water bottle soda juice ETC, which isn’t allowed in normal TSA. you are also aloud to bring nicotine, cigs, ecigs without hassle. I now work as a ramp agent at the airport and I really like it, I live 25 minutes from the airport the longest part is really catching the shuttle bus and walking to my gate which adds an extra 20 minutes to my commute but for 20/hr it’s worth it and I want to work in airplane maintenance so the work is worth the experience.

I worked at TGI Fridays in the Pittsburgh airport and I loved it. Busier than most restaurants, crazy famous guests here and there, you have your own security to go through (you breeze through). I’ve worked at a million restaurants and airport jobs are my favorite. People are usually in a drinking mood at an airport. Meet people from all over the world. I loved it

Yes, they apply specifically for the airport. It’s more money per hour and usually a sign on bonus if you stay 3+ months. Background check takes forever. It’s incredibly difficult to staff these places so they hang on to their good employees for dear life

It's not higher wage, but more tips. Most airports require a security check/clearance. At most airports you are hired by the hospitality management company and work at the restaurant

I took a bartending class and the instructor said one of the best places to bartend is airports because people give higher tips on vacation and/or company’s money with business travel ..maybe not related but I always think about that

Welcome to America where bigger corporate companies pay companies like Panda Express to use their logo in airports, stadiums, universities, etc

I serve/bartend at an airport and it’s interesting. I can’t speak for the non tipped positions but at least where I work the airport has a $5 an hour stipend they add to my hourly to my management company. So unlike most servers/bartends I do get a decent hourly and a nice biweekly check. We have an employee lot/shuttle that adds maybe 15-20 mins to your clock in time but tsa is a breeze. We badge in and skip mostly everything everyone else has to go thru. The 25 mins I add to my arrival time is worth it because this is the most consistent restaurant job tip wise I’ve ever had.

It is more money that’s why it costs more! That’s also why some airports have a fee added to all purchases. I think most airport businesses are franchises so you would likely apply to that specific location. And they have employee lots that provide shuttle transportation

Airport restaurants are all operated by catering companies (like CIBO) they hire and staff the locations not Panda corporate. So you know you’re applying for an airport job when you apply. Airport jobs are usually union jobs. Also, probably have more stringent background checks than a normal restaurant job.

I worked at an Auntie Anne’s at the Pgh airport through college. It ruled. I had free parking, they paid more than the local mall, and it was just generally more entertaining. Security isn’t bad because they let you cut the line. I applied specifically to that location. You have to get security clearance which is the most annoying part. I’ve been gone 10+ years but I’d go back tomorrow if they paid a real salary. It was fun af.

When you apply for any chain restaurant you apply to the specific location. But anyone who works at an airport needs a SIDA badge- so it would be a two part process. You would be hired, then the airport will do a thorough background check. Still minimum wage.

I think they apply to companies such as Delaware north, who works with a lot of big stadiums as well and then they are placed.
