I loved Harry Potter so I read Manacled instead and omg it broke me in the best way. It felt like I was reading an adult version of HP. Now I'm obsessed with Dramione tropes 😂

if you want to give Dark Romantasy another try, I am ADDICTED to Anathema by Keri Lake (the second one Eldritch just came out). Audiobooks is PHENOMENAL. I loved loved the world building and magic system. I would describe it as fantasy with some horror aspects which was a new but good experience!

I love that Alchemised was focused so heavily on Helena and the “smaller” portion of a horrible war. Other stories always focus on the hero on the front lines and not the atrocities happening elsewhere. I love complex worlds and I think Sen was being held back with HP universe. I’d love to see more work from them within this world.

have you read manacled? the author wrote a fanfic based on hp with draconian and hermione. It was devastating. She had to rewrite it and avoid copyright etc to be published and that is alchemised.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you say for you “something was missing, you needed more”. I think for some as a standalone this can be great but a lot will feel like you feel. And to be honest that’s because you are missing something… you’re missing the back story of HP and then what manacled was. Does it work as a standalone? Yes… but it was better, imo, as a continuation, aka, manacled
