There’s something almost otherworldly about living organisms producing their own light. Glowing oceans, forests filled with tiny lights, and creatures illuminating the darkness of the deep sea. It all looks like something from another planet, yet it exists right here on Earth. And what makes it even more fascinating is that evolution didn’t create all this beauty just for us to admire. For some organisms, light is a way to communicate or attract a mate. For others, it’s a tool for hunting, camouflage, or protection. In the deepest parts of the ocean, where sunlight never reaches, producing light can make the difference between finding food and becoming someone else’s. Bioluminescence evolved independently many times, through different biological mechanisms. What looks like pure magic to our eyes is actually the result of millions of years of evolution, chemistry, and adaptation. Sometimes I think we spend so much time imagining what life on other planets might look like that we forget how alien and extraordinary life on our own planet already is. I also experimented a little with rotoscoping in this edit. #Bioluminescence #edit #Science #Nature #Animation
