L'année dernière quand j'ai rencontré ma correspondante américaine pour la première fois en face à face, je lui ai fait la bise alors qu'elle s'approchait de moi pour me faire un câlin. In Italy we do the same thing but not with people we just met and not in a professional environment! In those cases we just shake hands. We kiss the cheeks with family, friends or close acquaintances :) personally, i prefer to hug my friends and the family members I'm closer in age. The kiss on the cheeks is seen more as a respectful way to greet your elders
