Jennie12 :
I've been keeping birds for 9 years and have more than 20 birds cockatiel, lovebird, & sunconure.. Some of them I wing-clip because they haven't bonded yet. I wing-clip them for the purpose of administering deworming medication every month (by dropping it directly into their mouths), and my aviary is too high for me to climb just to catch them one by one. For those that are already bonded, it's easier because they come to me. Wing-clipping doesn't hurt them, it's just like getting a haircut. In about 6 months, their wings will grow back normally. They can still fly, but low. Of course, there are downsides - I have to be extra careful to protect them from predators. But as long as they're inside the aviary, they're safe, and they're also safe inside the house. They're not stressed, they still sing and behave normally. Sometimes I let them fly freely inside the house. Once they've bonded, I let their wings grow back fully. My birds are healthy, singing, and not stressed, and none of them have died or become stressed due to wing-clipping. So, in my opinion, wing-clipping is not a problem if it's necessary and done correctly. As long as you don't cut the wrong feathers, it's fine."😉
