In my opinion there is very few jobs that need doing between Christmas and new years. Unless you're saving lives/providing care to people who cannot care for themselves or are integral for infrastructure like... idk electricity, garbage disposal, that sorta stuff - the job can wait until the new year. Especially shops and Restaurants - let the people enjoy their holidays too! I said what I said.

OK so some Jobs (retail etc.) can't work like this for practical reasons. BUT most European companies definitely work like this, closing on Christmas eve and reopening the day after new year.
