I am surprised to hear this about Americans but hey I haven't lived in NYC. But I remember moving back to India in 2009, and my driver in Bangalore used to laugh at me, he really found it funny, as I was so cautious in crossing a road when everyone else will cross like ... like the people you describe.

So imagine me with this attitude crossing the road in Pakistan where the men drive with the confidence of there is no one walking or driving who is going to stop them for pushing on to their destination even when there appears no room to pass threw but they make a way moral is even when you don’t see a way push on
