Goldberg asked Vance directly: "When you see things — them doing all kinds of removal of information of Black heroes — how does that sit with you?" Vance responded, "What exactly are you talking about?" — drawing loud groans from the studio audience. When Vance then characterized her question as accusing the administration of being "anti-minority or anti-black," Goldberg cut in immediately: "No I didn't say that!" The removals in question include the stripping of quotes about slavery, immigrants, and war from the Bunker Hill Monument in Boston; the removal of slavery exhibits at Philadelphia's Independence Mall; and the removal of over 30 signs at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia. In January 2026, the Trump administration also ordered the removal of slavery-related interpretive panels at the President's House Site within Independence National Historical Park. Six exhibits and 13 specific items were flagged for review under Executive Order 14253: "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History." A federal judge had ordered the government to restore the removed monuments within 21 days. Vance appeared on the program to promote his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, becoming just the third sitting vice president to join the daytime panel.
