Having lived here 10 years, I can say yes it’s safe. Take normal precautions and add value to the country. The statistics are skewed due to the small population and higher crime rate in the city. Don’t flash your money, don’t lend money if you can’t afford to not get it back- that applies to locals and immigrants. The first year is easy as everything is new and exciting, by year two some miss the conveniences of first world. Many leave at year two but if you make it through that you are going to do great! If coming with children, do your research in terms of educational opportunities. I was a principal in Canada and have started a school in Placencia, Coastal Education Center. High school starts at a young age and the curriculum is not as rigorous as we might expect, especially if you are Canadian. So do your research in this area as well! Enjoy the beauty of the Jewel!
