And some people use all that lovely technology just to tell me the earth is flat, and we never landed on the moon.
That's really sad

I don’t understand how tiny amounts of data doesn’t get lost in this process. Like I’ve had error messages before but I’ve never had a letter missing or a picture off by a few pixels. Literally never

it blows my mind that a message can get to Australia and back in under a second so consistently. billions of connections sharing the same cables? it makes no sense to me

This all seems crazy but I think what is even crazier is that we also dont need the fiber and we can send this data through air

Yeah the amount of flashes that happen at the speed they happen to transfer TBs of data is diffucult to comprehend. If you printed out on paper the amount of 1’s and 0’s that are transmitted per second over one cable it would blow your mind…then multiply that by the amount of cables going across the world at the same time 🤯

I don’t want to crash the party but it’s predominantly single wavelengths or bidirectional using two wavelengths up to 100G. Using many wavelengths is mostly used by ISPs and such demands. Its not colors you can actually see but wavelengths around 1271–1611 nm.
