I miss teaching. I am capable of so much more than what I am allowed to do. If I were allowed to actually teach the way I know is best, I wouldn’t be retiring next year. It’s soul crushing.

I truly believe the move towards scripted curriculum is part of the whole plan to de-professionalize teaching. They don’t value the expertise teachers bring, they don’t want to pay for it. They want a warm body reciting a script

I still remember in third grade, my teacher made up a song to teach us the seven continents, and the four major oceans of the world… I still remember that song to this day. I miss when education wasn’t scripted.

My 9th grade English teacher paired every piece of classic literature with a modern one, so we could better understand themes and concepts and tie our experiences to history. It promoted literacy not just reading comprehension. My favorite pairings were The Scarlet Letter/ Speak and the transcendentalist movement/ Frindle.

I’m a graphics teacher and I use fake money to pay students. They then have to pay rent, electricity and taxes. I make them write checks and balance the checkbooks.

Scripted curriculum is why I retired earlier than I had planned. Students were not engaged. While the curriculum was actually well designed, the robotic approach killed creativity and engagement.

How do they think little kids learn science. The teacher is teaching about clouds this week or month and when there are cumulus clouds you go outside and show the kids. If you are supposed to teach that on Tuesday the 4th how does that work?

I taught a career pathways class and ended up doing a week on "life skills" like writing cheques, filling out government forms, and reading official documents like leases all because my students asked. That was not in the curriculum but was extremely relevant and useful to them

I had a teacher have us make written revised Shakespeare acts and perform them in our tiered courtyard. She also spent about 9 wks on the Holocaust and man am I glad she did. She also had us analyze our learning style. She was awesome.

The level of disrespect has no limit. Lack of pay (teachers with 2nd and 3rd jobs), lack of trust to make curriculum decisions, items being stolen or destroyed, and being hit and yelled at by students. all contribute to this decline.

This is the same for the cafeteria, we are no longer allowed to be creative feeding students. Its following a nation wide menu, filled with to small portions and bland meals.

Scripted curriculums just sound spooky. Why would you want to script the education of students so strictly unless there is nefarious intent involved? Creativity, spontaneity, and ingenuity are the foundation for great education and even greater educators. They can't do that being boxed in with a script. Thank you for being one of the good ones, and refusing to stay silent 💜

1st yr teaching- my niece was the same age. She was picked on for liking Spider-Man bc she was a girl and it was for ‘boys’. My sister said she later decided to wear a SM shirt bc maybe there were other girls that liked it and she wanted to help them. I cried and talked to my 1st graders about it and had the most AMAZING conversation with them. Still gives me chills.

My first principal wanted to be able to go between grade level classrooms and expect them all to be teaching the exact lesson at the exact time, within a 5 minute give or take. ☠

What I hate is everything is done on a computer anymore and most teachers are just babysitters and the kids teach their selfs I’ve watched your videos love them and wish my kids had teachers like you
