I took a de-escalation training years ago that helped me learn some tactics to feel more comfortable in moments like these, in case that might be helpful for you. I can’t remember the org, but there are others out there.

As someone who grew up in DV and witnessed public fights like that between my parents- NO ONE ever intervened, thank you for stepping in and offering kindness. It’s that first step to breaking the lie of DV that says that no one will ever believe you or listen to you or want to help.

as far as the safety of the city is concerned, I will die on the hill that this is only seen as more frequent because most people in car centric cities will emotionally and physically abuse their family in a car instead of in public. even though this is traumatic for you, I'm glad the girls were visible to others ❤

Ugh how awful! But when you see that happen call the cops. There’s a few stories here where the man has killed or attacked the person intervening. And she’s right people! I’ve been in nyc for almost a decade and only had one scary experience. Otherwise completely safe.
