The trouble with Americans doing a British accent, is that they either default to "posh" (Hugh grant, Tom hiddlestone, Benedict cumberbatch etc) because often it's those actors that make it in Hollywood, or something version of cockney, normally loosely based on Bert from Mary Poppins. Rarely do you here a us national nail even a south east accent, but definitely not more regional accents like Devon, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle etc. They don't have the exposure to UK media to be able to parrot those accents. Weirdly Chris Pratt does an excellent Essex accent because he watched loads of the only way is Essex, and Johnny Depp's jack sparrow seems pretty effortless for him too.
