As an athlete who played from 3 years old to college. There’s no better feeling then looking up in the stands in the middle of a game and seeing your parents cheering for you.

Showing up and being present is so important. You don’t realize unless you don’t have it.

I really hope they were just taking pictures and videos of her game so it just looked like they were on their phones

My daughter went for cheer camp and the only time I went on my phone was to write her friends parents to tell them about a guy that was hanging around their kid. I did watch said guy for a big portion of the time because he came up to the kid and asked her if she was alone and other questions like her grade and I was worried about her but after I made sure to tell my daughter why halfway through cheer camp my eyes weren’t on her and she understood. She even said she saw the guy watching her friend too and talking to her and she was happy I kept an eye on her friend to make sure she wasn’t kidnapped. Unless there is an emergency I agree you shouldn’t be on your phone during your child’s performance or practice.

My son actually needs me to be "on my phone" when he's swimming with the Lifeguard Brigade. Otherwise, he doesn't train seriously. I do peek at what he's doing regularly, but I'm otherwise preoccupied with it. During breakdancing, I definitely watch every battle (only then are parents allowed to watch).
