When you told how you were able to escape with your children brought me right back to when I left my ex abuser in 2011. I knew I had seconds to get out that front door with my sleeping daughter in my arms and ran with snow on the ground . I had on house shoes and wrapped my daughter in a blanket ( she was in her pajama’s) and ran like hell. Luckily for me , my mother lived about a mile away. He jumped into his car and I was running and screaming as loud as I could so anyone that was up in my moms subdivision that late could hear me and I kept screaming at him that I was gonna run into ppls house to call 911 . I didn’t know it then but found out that he had spent 2 years in prison about 5 years before I met him for DV. We need a registry for all DV just like we do for SO . This could save so many lives .

The mother is always the biggest enabler for these men. Their son could do no wrong in their eyes. I’ve lived this within my family I no longer have contact with. Survivors guilt is a real thing and it’s a constant battle when you can help them escape the monster you experienced. Just know she’s proud of you for getting you both justice.

I was the first girl (of many) to go to the police and hold my attacker “accountable”… people have no clue how difficult it is to go through the court process… So glad I did, and while it saved my life it also took years off my life… Proud of you for everything you’ve done and for continuing to talk about this

this happened to my cousin, she even moved across the street from the police station to feel safer, and he followed her home from the church right after she watched her little sister’s Christmas play, and while she was walking her dog, he broke into her apartment and when she opened the door to walk into the apartment, he pew her in the head and then off’d himself, on his 18th birthday. And his mom worked at my high school and I was forced to see her every day. She wasn’t protected no matter how hard we all tried. We knew it was gonna happen too.
