Maybe but depends on the sector. Tech companies are looking for candidates with every tech stack skill known to man. Had an interview this past week that was looking for skills not listed in the job posting and with so many of us in the market they are sure they can find their unicorn.

I apply and apply. I have 4 degrees (BS, 2 Masters and a PhD) with experience in healthcare, education and security. Unfortunately, I cannot find a job, I get maybe 1 interview a month. This is the 3rd month with no luck.

currently working an in-patient hospital role, currently searching for Medical assistant jobs out of state. the main thing I keep getting told well you don't have in clinic experience and none of the 3 years healthcare experience you have is usable even if I hit the skills they are looking for. mind you I received the educational knowledge and passed my NHA certification I'm just missing my clinicals.

As a former hiring manager I can say she’s 1000% accurate. A persons fit into the team weighed as much for me as their experience. If you have 70% of the skills and 80% the fit in terms of attitude and desire, I was going to offer you the position 9/10 times.

Click apply but if called for an interview, while meeting with the hiring manager ask why they chose you to interview. This question helped me progress to VP interview, and helped me understand the scope and gaps the role is filling.

After you apply is it worthwhile to reach out to a talen acquisitions manager that you already have on LinkedIn and let them know your application is in and you’re interested in setting up a call to learn more? Or better to wait and see if they select you?

You say this- and yes, recruiters call me.. But HM’s seem to take the time to tear me apart in interviews if I don't 100% match.. It's so demoralizing and i just want to reply to the recruiters and tell them they stuck me to the loins den with no warning. I have interviewed with 89 companies. Made it to HM rounds 75% of the time and the feed back is always “not skilled enough” but when I go for jobs where i am 100%aligned its always “over qualified” i am literally broken and got a PT job bartending at a holiday market that will start the week my unemployment ends.. Even Target holiday hiring turned me down.. I am devastated out here.

So how does this work with the robots that discard your resume when you’re not a 100% fit for the job? I have applied to many jobs and always end up getting a “thank you for applying but we’ve decided to pursue more qualified candidates.” Jobs aren’t willing to train anymore, they just want candidates that will fit right into the position.

Depends on the job. This is not universal. I just interviewed for a position I didn’t meet all the requests on and immediately saw the switch in the hiring manager. Haven’t gotten the rejection yet but I know it’s coming. They want 100% match
