When gardeners in Thornton-Cleveleys had grown surplus vegetables, they would often share their produce on the allotments or trade with neighbours who had too many eggs. Months later, residents fear they have been unintentionally “poisoning” each other. The Lancashire town, near Blackpool, sits in the shadow of the Hillhouse industrial site, which has been the subject of investigations into contaminated soil. Hundreds of homes within a half-mile radius of the factory, owned by AGC Chemicals Europe, were previously warned their gardens could be contaminated and two allotments were closed after a multi-agency investigation was launched in 2024. Residents were told they had hugely elevated levels of the PFAS, known as “forever chemicals”, in their blood. Of 49 people tested, almost 70 per cent were considered at high-risk — above 20 ng/ml — for adverse health effects, according to a scale devised in the United States #foreverchemicals#lancashire#toxins#uknews#plant
