@making_senseofit_w.katt: Six Things You Should Never Do When Your Adult Child Goes No Contact 1. Don’t Chase Them. The instinct to fix it, explain yourself, or keep showing up comes from love — but it’s received as control. Chasing doesn’t heal, it feeds their narrative that you can’t respect boundaries. Step back, even when it hurts, because your silence speaks maturity and strength. 2. Don’t Beg or Apologize for Existing. There’s a difference between accountability and surrender. If you’ve already taken responsibility for what’s yours, you don’t need to keep kneeling at the altar of their pain. Endless apologies won’t buy forgiveness — they’ll only erode your dignity and reinforce imbalance. 3. Don’t Let Shame Be Your Compass. Shame will make you question everything you did right. It will convince you that you were the monster they say you were. Don’t let shame rewrite your history. Reflect, yes. But don’t self-destruct trying to earn back someone who’s decided they’re above reconciliation. 4. Don’t Get Pulled Into Character Assassination. When they attack your reputation, your parenting, your heart — don’t join the war. You can’t fight for truth with people committed to distortion. Time and consistency will reveal your character. Let your peace be your protest. 5. Therapist don’t know your side of things. Do not think they are the experts. 6. Dont Stop Living. Your life isn’t over because they stepped out of it. Grieve, yes — but then stand back up. Reclaim the parts of you that existed long before the title “Mom” or “Dad.” You still have love to give, laughter to share, and a story worth living — even without their approval. #estranged #fyp #relationships #therapy #nocontact

After separation a year ago, I got a call one daughter who told me that she was wanting to hear me out that lasted for about half an hour and then she told me she didn’t wanna talk to me for a while. Other two daughters didn’t even do that. Third daughter has slowly stopped talking to me. My friends are so shocked because I was the good father easy-going fun, loving take them to school. Pick them up. Cook the meals. Show them how to make movies play the games I know I’m not perfect, but this has totally wrecked my world. I’m seriously depressed. This idea not trying to do anything is so hard. I don’t wanna blame. I just wanna be a part of their lives, but i guess I’m toxic.

Found out I’m a horrible person because I didn’t chase her. She asked for space, I respected it and now I’m the villian.

Is this a trend now? My oldest hasn’t talked to me in a month, I’ve cried myself to sleep every night.

Don't apologize for a scenario in their head if you know for a fact it didn't happen

A good Therapist would request a session with the parent.

I completely disagree to an extent about chasing them, continuously reiterating your love and support is important and simple apologies goes a long way. Take accountability for the way you made someone feel!!!

A whole generation of “victims”fueled by a “one-sided” therapy sessions. Gone are the days of “both sides to every story!” Therapists are out here giving advice to their patients without ever meeting the other party.

Sorry to say, but if you have to go “no contact” with a parent then they ARE a horrible person!! What did THEY do to make you go no contact?! It wasn’t nothing!

Im done chasing, Im done defending myself position, Im done over explaining, Im done having to accept superficiality just to hang onto threads of a relationship that can be cut at any second of their (significant other's) choosing. it's exhausting, its my life too.

What are your credentials?? Just curious. These things don’t address the action of looking inward at what things someone has done to make their son or daughter not want to be in their life????

It’s not normal for children to separate from their parent. It goes against human nature. Therefore there must be a very very good reason. Always a parents responsibility to set things straight. Always. That’s part of parenting.

Ty for sharing This is a new society behavior and treatment. When this no contact behavior begins most of us don’t know or understand what’s happening. We would never think to treat our loved ones this way. What are the rules? After months of this character association I refuse to let my child define me. Something is broken in them and they don’t have skills to heal communicate and trust that Conversation can lead to healing.
