@chickenschmidtfarms: Replying to @jammiedoh16 It’s truly awful that we subject these birds to a life of safety, warmth, security, fresh air, quality feed, and all around good animal husbandry. These birds aren’t being factory farmed. They’re raised in small batches like any other chicken. Though their lives are short- we ensure they’re quality. #meatchickens #cornishcross #homestead #farmchores #vegan
These chickens have the best life! Meat from the stores- not so much. People do not understand that this specific breed *physically* cannot survive or live a good life and must be processed when the time comes.

I get how sad it can be to imagine a chicken being processed, but many simply don't seem to realize that these chickens were bred to not live long. to keep them past their process date would likely cause them so much pain, they're made so their slaughter is the most humane thing to do. I feel good supporting farms if I know they're like this, where the chickens live their best lives before their due date. this poster seems to really care for their birds, and takes their care into heavy consideration. I believe this is a very ethical farm, and I hope you have a good day :D

Personally, my problem is not necessarily that animals are bred for meat. My problem is that these birds specifically cannot function on their own. Not in the sense that most domestic animals can’t survive in the wild, in the sense that if these animals live long enough, their own way will crush their internal organs. A secondary problem I see is that this breed in particular is not self sustaining. I know you guys have other breeds of chicken and that’s great, but if for some reason, if Cornish crushes could not be bought or bread anymore, many, many farms, not only factory farms would have a huge problem. As they couldn’t breed any more chickens on site without having to make major investments in other breeds.

I’ve actually just started getting into quail as a secondary meat source that simple and quick and easy to breed. I have my first batch of 24 eggs in the incubator now….
