I don’t think dex believed that he was capable of loving em the way she deserved to be loved. He knew he wasn’t ready for that kind of love so he threw himself into flimsy, short-lived relationship to cope for his loneliness and to keep him sane in the down spiral of his career. I think once it clicked that em has and always would love him and STAY at his very lowest and wouldn’t lie to save his feelings he knew it was worth changing for. Worth putting in the effort for. He knew em deserved better so he CONSCIOUSLY made the decision to be better for her.

I think he had always loved her but that love had quietly shifted from the warmth of friendship to something tender a lover's kind of love. Yet he never truly realised it, not fully, not until he was standing at the edge of losing her. Their time together was brief, fleeting but they clung to each other with such intensity making up for the years they had wasted not being together, not knowing how little time they actually had. Sometimes I wonder… if she hadn’t died, if they had grown old side by side, would the love still feel this tragic? Or was it the loss, the brevity, the “almost” of it all, that made it echo so loud?

Am I the only one that genuinely can’t stand this show? It was wonderfully made, but the way Dex treated Emma the entire time was awful. I would never want to be with somebody like that, and Emma used so much of her time pining over this man, then died. It’s tragic.
