@bjornandlucia: Dental health is such an important part of caring for our dogs 🦷💛 Today we took Bjorn and Lucia to get a gentle, non-anaesthetic dental clean. they both did great and were handled so carefully, and their teeth look amazing now! Bjorn and Lucia are incredibly calm dogs and can tolerate a lot, which makes this kind of clean suitable for them. But I want to make sure owners are really well informed about how these cleans work and what to be mindful of. This clinic is run by a lovely team of dental hygienists. Before any cleaning, a full dental check is done. If the hygienists notice anything concerning — like inflammation, loose teeth, or signs of infection — they’ll refer you straight to a vet. I had a chat with Aisling, a well-known vet student content creator, and with her input I wanted to add some extra information so owners are fully informed before making decisions for their own dogs. She highlighted that anaesthesia-free cleans only remove visible tartar and don’t allow for X-rays or full assessment below the gum line, so some dental issues might go undetected. For that reason, regular veterinary dental check-ups are still important. While a non-anaesthetic clean can help with mild tartar or general maintenance for calm dogs with healthy teeth, it’s not a substitute for a full vet dental check-up.
