Ahmad Hassoun is on trial in Syria's capital Damascus on charges of being an accomplice to former President Bashar al-Assad's crimes against the Syrian people. He was well-known for being one of the religious figures who would try to legitimise the secular Alawite minority dictatorship to the Sunni Arab majority population, and is on film supporting the armed crushing of the protest movement and resulting revolution at the hands of Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers.
