Most people really overestimate how much their metabolism slows down with age. At 30 vs 20, it’s like a 3–6% drop. At 50, it’s 5–10%, which is honestly just 100–200 calories. That’s not your metabolism “breaking.” And most of that drop? It’s muscle loss… if you’re not training. If you lift, if you stay active, your metabolism doesn’t just crash for no reason. So why do women gain weight as they get older? First, lifestyle. At 20 you’re constantly moving, going out, walking, doing things without even thinking. At 50… you’re just less active. That’s the reality. Second, hormones. Premenopause, menopause, yes, they matter. They can make you more hungry, more tired, hold more water. But they don’t magically make you gain fat. Most women can still lose weight, even after menopause. So it’s not “my metabolism is slow.” It’s mostly how you live. If you don’t train, if you move less and less every year, of course it catches up. Don’t blame metabolism for everything. This part is actually on you.
