October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I'm posting this because this man has not changed. But I HAVE. A few years ago, you would have heard me wailing and crying in the background. You would have watched me become completely emotionally dysregulated because of the things he said to me. Not anymore. Now I hear those same words, and I recognize them for what they are. Projection. Manipulation. An attempt to get a reaction out of me. He's a 41-year-old man who goes to work, comes home, plays video games, and barely contributes to taking care of the house. When I moved into this apartment, I immediately made sure our daughter had a furnished bedroom. A space that was hers. A place where she could feel loved, safe, and wanted. Meanwhile, he's continued buying things for his own bedroom while contributing nothing toward hers. Same pattern, different day. And through all of this, I'm fighting for my daughter. I'm facing the possibility of losing custody of the person I love most in this world. The heartbreak is so overwhelming that some days I genuinely feel like it's going to destroy me. But here's what I want people to understand. My growth does not mean his behavior has changed. My ability to stay calm does not mean what he's doing is okay. And the fact that I no longer cry when he tries to hurt me does not mean the abuse isn't happening. It means I've learned to recognize it. It means I've grown. And it means he no longer gets to control my emotions the way he once did. If I could tell anyone experiencing the beginning stages of abuse one thing, it would be this: PLEASE, don't ignore the first red flag. Don't spend years waiting for someone to become the person they promised you they would be. Recognize the signs. Find support. Make a safe exit plan. Because surviving domestic violence isn't just about leaving. It's about rebuilding everything that was taken from you. And I'm still rebuilding. 💜 #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DomesticViolenceSurvivor #EmotionalAbuse #BreakTheCycle #SurvivorStrong
