@diaryofabirthmum: A letter to the ones who call my children theirs. To the people raising my children this isn’t hate. It’s history. To the strangers who became family through my loss. This is not a thankyou letter. It’s the truth. it's a message to the adopters ...their mother never disappeared. To those who call them theirs, from the one who called them first and gave them their names. To my children’s adopters… and to every mother written out of her own story this one's for you! #adoptiontruth #AdoptionTrauma #adoptionawareness #ForcedAdoption #taken

I’m an adopted kid and my adoption broke down so i’m not bias either way. However all i will say is i can’t imagine if my birth mum had posted something like this it would help me. i did infact go looking for my bio mum, but not to give her the mum title again more to make her aware that i didn’t ask to be born and why did she bring me into such an unstable life, unstability that was then continued by others. Nobody’s perfect but it’s a parents job to make it ok for them when your a parent. Anyway i never got to ask, my bio mum died of an OD. Her choices, and my adopted parents choices and the whole systems choices caused me trauma. I’ve learnt from all of it to be able to parent my boys, i had PND and came close to losing my first son, but i refused to follow that statistic. The systems crap yes but you can and need to fight back to not become the statistic. Long story short i’m nothing like my bio mum, or my adopted mum, i’m myself in spite of my crap, mum to two boys and they won’t ever know any of that crap. Good luck to you, i mean no nastiness, only another perspective

as a girl who was adopted my birth mother was never my mum and never will be. you don’t get to dictate your place in a child’s life sorry, it’s not who was there first it’s who actually stepped up and is there.

I am an adoptee and an adopter, I get it. I lost my biological mum last year and it’s broken me. Adoption is trauma, it is loss but it is also love, it is complex and those complexities aren’t lost on me. No one truly knows another’s story, nor should they. Children never forget, they never don’t know…..they know….they know. But they also love their adoptive families, and that seems the issue for many. Our hearts are huge and are capable of loving so many, it has no boundaries, love comes in many forms.

Theres always a reason children are taken, it's not the people who adopted these children at fault, your choices and actions that led to it are at fault

As a foster carer. I hear you. However, our lives are built on little broken people. They sob on a night and we have to wipe the tears. They go to contact, seemingly happy, but for days/weeks are emotionally drained and upset, having nightmares, worried about what things have been said/done. We pick up all the pieces. Yes sometimes the system should be better and more supportive. But the trauma on these kids are immense. I’ve had two girls for nearly a year, they call me mum, their choice, not mine, I’m not their mum, they have one, a poor excuse for one, she breaks their heart daily, we fight for them, they are at the centre of all we do. As will your biological children with their new families. I’m sorry but the daily pain they face is probably harder than what you experience daily.

Risk of future harm is a terrible excuse for removing children, they do not have a crystal ball. They removed my son while i was pregnant for the same reason but i got to keep my baby and subsequent 2 more children, i never got my son back, he never got to grow up with his siblings who long to know him.

As an adoptive parent my child knows the birth family and their story and I’m forever grateful for that. But the birth family refuses to have any kind of relationship with them but this really hit hard listening to this thanks for sharing

Whilst I do feel for birth parents, children need to grow up safe and loved and so whether adopted or living with foster carers. The children have to come first. There should be more support for parents who have had their children removed.

They say ‘children need stability’ then move them around a dozen foster carers.

As an adoptive parent of 2 beautiful boys, birth family are never written out of the story or erased, life story work is a fundamental part of adoption and something that is built in early on and always spoken about, adoptive parents just want their children to feel seen, heard, loved, safe, enough and wanted which is what we provide and how I sleep at night

It’s hard because you needed caring for too, that’s the reality. But if you were unable to keep yourself safe then you couldn’t keep them safe either and that’s a hard one to navigate.
