Laylat al-Qadr is one of the greatest blessings Allah has given to this Ummah. It is a night whose value cannot truly be measured. Allah describes it in the Qur’an as better than a thousand months, meaning that the worship done in this one night is more valuable than worship done for over 83 years. This shows how immense the mercy of Allah is toward His servants. Because the exact night is not known, Muslims are encouraged to strive in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd nights. This wisdom encourages believers to remain consistent in worship and not rely on only one specific night. The Prophet ﷺ himself used to increase his efforts in these nights more than any other time in Ramadan. On this blessed night, the angels descend with mercy and blessings, and the night is filled with peace until dawn. It is also a night in which a believer can gain complete forgiveness of past sins if they stand in prayer sincerely, with faith and hope in Allah’s reward. For this reason, a Muslim should not treat Laylat al-Qadr like an ordinary night. Instead, it should be approached with seriousness, humility, and hope. One should try their best to spend the night in prayer, reciting the Qur’an, making duʿāʾ, remembering Allah, and asking for forgiveness. Even small acts of worship done sincerely can carry enormous rewards on this night. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that whoever stands in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr with faith and seeking reward will have their previous sins forgiven. This makes it a powerful opportunity for a believer to renew their relationship with Allah and start fresh. Since we do not know exactly which night it is, the best approach is to strive during all the last ten nights, doing as much worship as possible. By doing this, a person ensures that they will not miss the blessings of Laylat al-Qadr. In the end, Laylat al-Qadr is a reminder of Allah’s immense mercy. It is a chance that may come only once each year, and no one knows how many Ramadans they will live to see.
