@nepalcultureandtantra: The dramatic jumping scene, often described by locals as the flight of the Devgans, is a central part of the Sikali Jatra celebrated in Khokana. Observed on the fifth and sixth days of Dashain, this festival holds a distinct place in Newar tradition, as the people of Khokana perform Sikali Jatra instead of celebrating Dashain. The origins of this ritual are said to trace back to the Svasthani Brata Katha, a revered text that narrates many divine episodes. While the Swasthani Brata Katha is deeply valued in Khokana, it appears only as a small segment within the broader Harasiddhi Jatra tradition. Historical narratives suggest that during the reign of King Amar Malla, when the Harasiddhi Jatra was reintroduced in Harasiddhi, the Rudrayani dance was established in Khokana too. What makes this connection even more fascinating is the theological contrast, People of Harasiddhi venerates Maheshwari in her androgynous form, while Khokana honors her as a fully feminine deity, reflecting a unique local adaptation of the goddess and a rich continuity of Kathmandu Valley’s tantric and ritual heritage. #fyp #capcut #tantra #khokana #sikalijatra
