Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165–1240) and Ibn Taymiyyah (1263–1328) did not live at the same time and never met one another. Ibn Arabi died approximately 23 years before Ibn Taymiyyah was born. Ibn Taymiyyah also criticized particular interpretations and statements attributed to Ibn Arabi, especially passages in Fusus al-Hikam, while later followers of Ibn Arabi defended and interpreted his writings in different ways.
