Politics, Religion & 2027 As the 2027 political campaign season begins, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa’s message deserves serious reflection. His message is not an attack on religion. It is a reminder that religion should not be reduced to a campaign tool. If politicians genuinely followed the teachings of the religions they profess, principles such as honesty, justice, accountability, compassion and responsibility would be reflected in governance. Perhaps Nigerians would not be facing so many of the hardships they experience today. The concern is that some politicians invoke religious identity when seeking votes, but once they gain power, the values they publicly claim may not be reflected in their leadership. So, to every Nigerian: look beyond the religious label. Look at character. Look at competence. Look at track record. Look at what a candidate can actually deliver. Who will protect lives and property? Who will improve education? Who will create opportunities for young people? Who will provide better roads and social amenities? Who will govern with justice and accountability? 2027 should not be about who can exploit our religious sentiments for votes.
