Back in the 80's, in my region, you couldn't get a job wearing your natural hair. My hair doesn't tolerate even the lightest chemicals or heat very well, but I suffered the damage to stay employed. During the 90's, I switched to cornrows. People at the office lost their freaking minds over it😐

I learned to code switch as a child. Its funny when I would get called for an interview and we talk and all is good. Then when they see my face, its look of surprise 😮 🫢 👀 🙄

A white woman that I sang in the choir with yrs ago really caught hell because she wasn’t good at code switching. Her family lived in a predominantly black neighborhood, all of her childhood friends were black. She talked as her friends did. She became incredibly uncomfortable in white spaces because of how she was treated. Such an odd situation.
