You can do indigenous peoples day on another day. Why do we have to erase history?

Democrats in the 90s and early 2000s used to be normal. These days they have become unrecognizable. They don’t even stand for traditional American values that have made our country great for hundreds of years.

**WHY THOSE OF SOUTHERN ITALIAN AND SICILIAN ANCESTRY/HERITAGE SHOULD REJECT COLUMBUS DAY** If your heritage is Southern Italian or Sicilian-like mine-Columbus Day isn't a celebration. It's a slap in the face.-In 1891, eleven Southern Italian/Sicilian immigrants were lynched in New Orleans. They were accused of killing a police chief, but after acquittals and mistrials, a mob stormed the jail and murdered them. It was the largest mass lynching in U.S.history. No one was punished. Why? Because Southern Italians and Sicilians were seen as racially inferior. In the U.S., we were called "swarthy," "criminal," "not white." But this prejudice didn't start in America-it existed in Italy too. Northern Italians saw Southerners as backward, uncivilized, and racially suspect. That divide followed us across the ocean. And Columbus? He was from Genoa, in NORTHERN Italy. He lived centuries before the lynching, but let's be real-he shared the same elite,Northern disdain for Southern Italians. He likely wouldn't have given a damn about Sicilians being murdered in New Orleans. Columbus Day wasn't created to honor us-it was a political move to calm Italy after the lynching scandal. It's a myth built on blood. -Columbus never set foot in what is now the U.S. His legacy is tied to colonization, slavery, and genocide of Indigenous peoples. If you're Southern Italian or Sicilian,Columbus Day doesn't honor your ancestors-it erases their suffering. Honor the truth. Reject the myth. We deserve better than a holiday built on violence and lies.
