There's not much you can do. Cut out fibrous foods temporarily to give your gut a break. After you start feeling better, keep up on fiber. If you're a frequent flier with diverticulitis, you may want to eliminate wheat from your diet. People who can't have wheat tend to get frequent infections. My husband didn't know wheat was killing him until one day I found him unresponsive and he went to the hospital for 2 weeks.

It takes awhile to get back to normal. If there is a normal. Just rest until you’re much better.

Unfortunately way longer than I expected. But small steps. Diet is most important because you will have tp find a new normal.

It gets better but it takes months to fully heal your colon and reduce the inflammation. I was diagnosed in 2021 when I went into a flare (no perforation though). Clear liquid diet for a week then soft low residue LOW fiber foods for about 4 months. Then slowly start incorporating more foods building up to high fiber. Do not get constipated ever (also a trigger for me). I can eat everything now except popcorn. I’ll never eat it again. The first couple years I would get pain if I ate something that my body didn’t like (peas and steak always used to hurt) I eat them now but in small quantities. And when I would hurt I would stop solid food for a couple days and just do clear liquids and organic bone broth. I take digestive enzymes at every meal. A good probiotic, lots of water. Chew everything to smithereens. Reduce stress. Hang in there it gets better! But just know this is a lifelong disease. There is no cure. You will have diverticulosis forever but it’s manageable. Diverticulitis is when it turns into infection. I have pockets throughout my entire colon but it’s my descending colon that was affected and flares but ive been good now for a couple years. Here if you have any questions!

I had the surgery. The first one she cut out the bad part and cleaned all the feces that leaked out over time. I wore a colonoscopy bag for 4 months until the reversal surgery. I went through a lot of pain recovering. But I bounced back great. Changed my diet. Added more fiber and stopped eating red meat.
