if you fall and hit your head on your helmet (wear a helmet for the pure fact that you can't sue someone for damages if you aren't wearing a helmet I think) you need to replace it. It doesn't look different but inside structure has changed and will not protect your head properly anymore.

Plz plz plz don’t wear dark colors if you’re biking early morning. You could even attach a small orange flag onto your bike so people won’t hit you. I used to bike often to work and more than once had someone almost hit me. In broad daylight.

All of this, but also a raincoat. A god honest raincoat, get it in bright yellow if you want. You put it on over your clothes, tug the hood up, it’ll keep you so much drier, and so much warmer by extension

Make sure to have active lights on you, any backpack you are wearing as well as on the bike. Have them on regardless of light conditions in the winter months.

Get a reflective belt or vest and wear it. Looking like an idiot is better than getting hit by a car. Also buy like a bajillion different gloves in different thicknesses. You will learn what ones to wear for what weather thru trial and error

Since you're in CO, check to see if you can get a rebate for an ebike (that's how i got mine). Get a repair kit and keep a tire inflator on you (they will deflate in the cold). Check your tires before the snow (there's a lot of bike shops that'll give you advice on that) bc CO is a hit or miss when it comes to cleaning up snow in certain areas and there's always ice that'll make things hell.

Layer gloves - agree with anyone who said ski gloves or cycling gloves, make those your top layer and wear knit/regular gloves as your bottom layer.

gloves for sure. I underestimated the windchill from riding once and still have effects from it. protect your hands. maybe handlebar wind guards like dirt bikes have too.

Get GOOD waterproof outerwear, mudflap is a MUST or you’ll be dirty for work, get a good helmet and bike lock ALONG with a chain to lock both frame and front tire, GOOD HELMET, get a sturdy bike that will tank if you get door’d, get a double wide rims, it will last much longer

Get gloves that you exclusively wear while biking and waterproof winter boots, plus a waterproof jacket and pants. Raincoats get your pants soaked. Also get knee pads and a helment. Usually when people crash on a bike they hit their head but their knees also take the brunt of the damage
