Ragnar did not live as a ‘true Viking’ in the way people like to idealize it. He never fully aligned with Viking culture or its beliefs he was constantly questioning, constantly searching, never settling for the answers handed to him by his people. From the very beginning, Ragnar wasn’t driven by glory or conquest he was driven by curiosity which made him chase land. After he sailed and met Athelstan, when he saw Christianity and another world beyond his own, it changed something in him. He realized that the world was bigger than raiding and glory, bigger than one faith or one people. That’s why he kept wanting to sail further not for fame, but for truth. To me, Ragnar was always a man looking for God, for purpose, for a place where his soul could feel at peace. You may see him differently and that’s okay. That’s the beauty of these shows. They’re meant to let each of us see the story through our own eyes, to find our own truth in the characters we grow attached to.
