I like to interpret the word ending photo as three things: Jack was absorbed into the essence of the overlook, hence similar to Mr. Grady due to being dead but his spirit was still not done serving the overlook. Two: Jack keeps being reincarnated and always finding his way back to the overlook in every life for just one more visit. Three: It’s just a perpetual loop of death and suffering, a family comes, they are killed but the child or witness is left alive, and than years later they come back to the hotel with a family they’ve made, and the entire loop restarts again, no matter how much you fight it, the overlook hotel somehow tricks you into doing malevolent acts of violence (“I’d sell my soul for a beer!”).
