@radiowithdrawal: “Angel Baby” was released in 1960 by Rosie & the Originals. Written by 15 year old Rosie Hamlin, the song was initially created as a poem for her first boyfriend. The song was recorded independently on a small two-track machine in the farming community of San Marcos, California. Initially unable to find a label to promote and distribute the song, Rosie convinced a San Diego department store to pipe the song through listening booths in the stores record department. The response from shoppers was enough to convince Highland Records to sign the band and promote the single. The song would peak at number 5 on the Billboard chart and would go on to be re-recorded by John Lennon, who referred to the original as one of his favorite songs. Excerpt: It’s just like heaven Being here with you You’re like an angel Too good to be true But after all I love you, I do Angel baby My angel baby #doowop #chicano #lowrider #latino #oldies
