There are plenty foreigners who climbed Everest without sherpa or any other Nepalese people. Nims Purja is a semi-fraud, idek why you'd pick him as an example when theres so many more impressive nepalese climbers. Idk why you'd want to ban anyone from climbing Everest but I agree that using the style, that's most common right now, Everest is not an impressive summit

Do you understand how much Sherpas rely on this money to keep their families alive? So many people saying we shouldn’t be climbing it have no idea how much this would f*** Sherpas income up. They literally fight for slots

I liner in Nepal for years so know a bit about it (and have hiked to the first base camp). In fact Sherpas wouldn't climb it at all without foreign climbers. It's called Chomolumgma, the mother goddess of the world. The Sherpas rever it. Also climbing is not cultural. They started climbing because foreigners wanted them as guides. Now it's become a livelihood because there are few other opportunities in the Khumbu which is the Everest region where they life. But tell Nepal to stop giving permits. They won't because Nepal makes money off it.

It’s wild that people in comment sections pretend white people are the only ones climbing Everest. I’ve heard so many stories of people from India, mexico, Brazil, china, and so many other countries climbing Everest it’s not exclusive to white people

I think Everest is overrated at this point. With so many people climbing it as a tourist it just feels wrong. Perhaps there needs to be stricter admittance to climb?
