Don‘t miss going on this adventurous yet relaxing day trip in the gorgeous Vulkaneifel, which is only 1 hour from Cologne 🥰 So here’s our recommended itinerary: 🚂🚂🚂 • Look up the Vulkan-Express train times and plan your train ride accordingly (they run differently depending on the season) • You can just buy your ticket on the train (cash only) or at the station in Brohl (not Burgbrohl) 1️⃣ Before getting on the Vulkan-Express train in Burgbrohl, make sure to explore the tuff caves and the wolf’s canyon (part of the Cave & Canyon Trail @traumpfade_traumpfaedchen ). It’s absolutely gorgeous, we love hiking here! The entire trail is 12 km and 3.5 hours, but the tuff caves and the wolf‘s canyon are very close to the station and can easily be explored before or after the train ride. And YES the trail takes you right through the caves 🤩 2️⃣ Then take the Vulkan-Express all the way from Burgbrohl to Engeln and back to Oberzissen (just stay on the train). That way you can fully enjoy the gorgeous scenery. After getting off in Oberzissen walk up to the Olbrück castle and explore the medieval grounds. The views are amazing, you can even see Cologne’s skyline from here! 😍 3️⃣ From the Olbrück castle, take the trail to Rodder Maar and enjoy the gorgeous lake with views of the castle! From there, walk back down into the town of Oberzissen and take the train back to Burgbrohl.
