@emergencyresilience: I wrote this up about 7ish years ago during my masters program and it’s due for an update so I thought I’d take a moment to share with you all in case it’s something you also feel inclined to do. #firstresponders #emt #paramedic #ems #griefandloss
I'm ready.NO FUNERAL & NO public announcement. NOBODY allowed to mourn! The only to know where my body is except my Husband!

I’m a first responder. I have a whole book with all of my accounts, insurances, mortgage info, passwords, etc in one spot in a safe. I also have a letter in there outlining this and individual letters to my kids. It’s the best peace of mind you can give them.

I’m a first responder and my employer has a death packet for us to fill out and seal. It becomes part of our personnel file in the event that we die in the line of duty. We have our wishes spelled out in our trust for other instances.

Death and dying is not discussed as openly as it should be. Death is a part of life. The sooner we come to terms with it, the better we can live our lives.

I’ve been task saturated since my mother died. I feel like I haven’t had time to grieve her.

How long can you wait to have a funeral and still have the body intact to bury? /gen

So interesting! I wrote a paper in 2018/2019 in a college ethics class where I proposed planning the death experience in the same manner we plan weddings. The music, the food, the clothing, the company. Great work!

I took an undergraduate course on death and dying, we wrote our own eulogies and had them read as we laid in a coffin (our classmate made) and it changed my entire life. I also now study social work focusing on death and dying

my mom didn’t leave it int writing but i wish she had. especially when siblings questioned it. she did tell me some things. i planned her funeral, burial, and wake and all i can say is if she had pre-planned her funeral it would have been a gift to me and my family. thank you for talking about this 💕

My husband and I are both first responders and we’ve been doing these for a few years. We revisit after major incidents (like when his coworker was a LODD) or every two years. We have plans for both service related or non. We both see daily how it’s so heavy when family members just don’t know specifics. While we didn’t do voice memos, I wrote letters. I may also add something with audio - particularly for my kids.

Wait five weeks to have a funeral? PSA: Funeral homes start charging to hold a body after 14 days they received it. This gets super expensive unless you are choosing to get cremated. People need to make informed decisions.

I’m a funeral celebrant and event planner for the last 16 years. This is so great!!! I’m from Ireland living in the US and have had a FREE pdf that I give to people to help them to preplan just like this. It’s soooo important and a beautiful gift to leave your loved ones. 🥰🥰 Well done girl 💪💞

This waiting on the funeral thing works when you pre-purchase your funeral plan ahead of time otherwise you’re just increasing your debt. I actually offer this to my clients to minimize the cost and take their time during grieving. Pre- purchase saves your almost 1/3 versus buying the moment of.

I absolutely love this idea. My husband and I are both professional skydivers. It is a possibility. Along with the fact that he’s in the military. I’ve tried having this talk with him before and he gets too depressed at the idea and won’t but I think I’m gonna make a packet for him. Even record videos (one for him, one for my family, one for my BFF, one for our friends) and save them to a flash drive for him if it ever happens.

Could you create a template? That would be so helpful in trying to go through this process. I would truly appreciate that.

Hospice nurse here. Awesome idea. Families are so grief stricken when their loved one passes and want to honor them at their funeral.

I teach a Death & Dying college course and my students plan their own funerals. I always say the worst time to plan a funeral is when someone dies!
