Inclusion would be the classroom teacher talking about neurodivergency from day 1 so nuertotypical kids can understand some peers communicate or behave differently for a reason. Not all kids are taught those things at home

retired sped ed teacher and Mom of a 27-yr old special-needs boy. I taught inclusion for 15 years. Every kid should be considered individually. Inclusion is a fine mind.

im not a special needs mom but I work im a home with special needs young men and I want to be involved because the parents arent. it hurts my heart that the parents only show up 4 like 40 minutes once every 3 months.

While I wish my little man could be included. But for his safety he cannot be included in regular classes. I recently went with the school on a pumpkin patch field trip. No fences, lots of people/kids, very unorganized and a little chaotic. I was too scared to not go and thank goodness I did. I brought his leash and it was still a stressful day. Had I not gone someone would have had to physically hold him all day.

Most Gen Ed teachers have only 1 or 2 college courses to prepare them for teaching students with special needs. Resource/SpEd teachers have curriculum that addresses behavior and specialized academic instruction for diverse learners. Sped students who can access Gen Ed curriculum with support can be included in those classes.

My son is profoundly autistic with intellectual disabilities. He was never really included.

My son is in the public school system , now before I say this I had to take my school district to court twice and fight like hell , but my son is in a “ hybrid” program where he is in a more restrictive learning environment for reading and math and then he goes into the gen ed classroom for social studies and science and he also participates in his essentials (gym, art , music ) with gen ed . So because his home base is a restrictive classroom, normally these children have to sit at a certain table for lunch , but I also fought that and he is allowed and does eat lunch with his gen ed friends.

Inclusion is when special needs children are placed in a mainstream classroom. Example: my autistic delayed son was placed in “special classes” for academics but he was able to take classes like “shop” and other extra curricular classes in the mainstream..

Inclusion for a special needs parent is simple- it’s every one. However inclusion in the school could be very different depending on who your talking to. Some may says its intergrating classes. (Not my definition but i have heard that said at school)

As a parent of an autistic son and as a special educator, I believe inclusion is anytime a child with special needs is included an activities with children without disabilities. This includes lunch, resource classes, recess and/or Gen ed classrooms based on the needs of the child.

My 6 year old is an eloper and he is fast. he no longer gets to have lunch recess with his class because he got through a gate on the "big kids playground" now it's just he and a para in the kinder playground. Next week I am going to start being there too so he has someone to play with.🙁

All inclusion was for my children was a time to be bullied, singled out and embarrassed more than usual. I pulled them out after 5th grade and homeschooled them
