A part of the issue is people aren’t being realistic about the shelf life of being an athlete and not mentally preparing themselves for life after sports.

It’s just weird. Doing cool things in sports was awesome. Great feeling. But I’m a nurse now. Sure that’s cool and a lot of people dream of this job. But it’s not the same.

Being grateful has nothing to do with a life altering event like retiring or injury, etc. They’ve poured so much work and effort into these things and it’s devastating to leave something behind like that.

I think we need more opportunities to play sports beyond college. I think there is a space in the market for semi-pro sports. It doesn’t sit right with me that someone who is in their early twenties have to be forced to stop being an athlete

I really struggle still 2 years out. Trying to pour myself into CrossFit and other athletic stuff but I can’t play my sport anymore bc of my ankles ând so I can’t even do like night leagues which hurts my heart. It’s really tough mentally

Very few people especially non team sports endeavors rarely talk about the depression that follow stopping the chosen sport.

I grieved my highschool marching band career for a hot minute, it was challenging busy and fun with structure and made friends for life but took the discipline and lessons and used them throughout my life

I just hate that people think they have to give up their support simply because they reach a certain point in life. That’s what really makes me sad. I feel like there’s a place for everyone to enjoy the athletics or their sport.

It's a grieving process. When your life was consumed with a sport/s from elementary school on until you retire due to injury or by choice, it's hard to adjust not building your days around your sport. It was your identity.

I mean most people go from playing something form 5 years old to maybe 18 to possibly in 40s if they make it that far it’s hard to adjust not doing it anymore
