I had the same experience with a blue roan stallion from the Onaqui herd back in 2022 or 23. He was standing just a few feet from me just watching, I believe it was about 5-8 feet. I had a 600 mm lens and I didn’t even need to extend the lens all the way, just 1’ 5”, to capture beautiful photos of him. He was so calm around me but completely uneasy around another set of tourist, actually was charging at them and trying to keep them in their cars.

Probably saw the same herd back in July. Amazing experience! Never felt more at awe with the wildlife and just taking in the breathtaking surroundings Wyoming. Beautiful
