The relationship between a therapist and a patient is a crucial part of effective therapy. The same is true of the relationship between a coach and a trainee. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I’ve also made the decision to go back to therapy, because sometimes working on yourself means recognising that you need a bit of help along the way. For me, both experiences have reinforced how important the right relationship and environment can be when you’re trying to grow. A wrestling coach-trainee relationship isn't just about learning moves or being told what you need to improve. It's about trust, communication, patience and feeling comfortable enough to make mistakes. It’s about having someone who can recognise your strengths, help you work on your weaknesses, push you outside your comfort zone, and remind you that getting something wrong doesn't mean you've failed. Just like with a therapeutic relationship, as trainees, we have a responsibility too. We have to listen, accept feedback, communicate honestly and be willing to keep learning. I'm still working on my confidence, I'm still learning, and I'm still trying to become better both inside and outside the ring. But I’m beginning to understand that struggling doesn't mean I’m not good enough. Sometimes, the right environment, the right people around you, and the willingness and encouragement to keep working on yourself can be huge motivating factors. There’s no shame in admitting that you need help. There’s strength in deciding to get it. ⚖️ #ProWrestling #ProfessionalWrestling #Therapy #MentalHealth #Growth
