ok but what if the person actually does feel like a burden and it's taking them a lot to actually muster up the courage to even say it...what if it's the victim after soooo long and actually letting that slip...and it's just honesty not guilt based communication.

I don’t need reassurance when I say I’m a burden. After days of fighting about how “unfair my situation is to him” “his needs aren’t being met” and days of crying and hundreds of failed doctors appointments and meltdowns and incurable conditions and pain management that doesn’t work… I AM A BURDEN. It’s a burden to be chronically ill. And when you’re chronically I’ll for so long it started messing with your head. I am a burden to myself. I am a burden to other people. It’s just the way the cards fell. I’m acknowledging my role as a burden in these situations. I’m taking accountability by saying that.

Whenever someone tries the "it must be nice to have it all together," I just say, "Yep, it sure is!" and move along with my day. XD

my mother admitted it was her fault for not getting to know my daughter, I didn't fall for it. I rolled with it and said, yeah, you're right, it is.

My mother does this. I’ve learned to walk away after 50 years. I still see her but keep my boundaries in place. I love her but I’m no longer available for her manipulative behavior.

O have a friend with a degenerative eye disease who has been leaning on her adult kids a lot. It’s been a hard transition and she tells me all the time she feels like a burden. Is that being manipulative? Is there no circumstance where that would be an honest emotion?

I find myself really working to admit fault with my own kids. I messed up a communication with my daughter this weekend. I knew it. She knew it. I took complete ownership and apologized. Something my parents could NEVER do.
