It doesn’t take into account the people who are in these age groups. Right now the people who are sixty plus are boomers who are the most self centered generation. Previous generations were happy to watch their children age when boomers now are mad they aren’t the center of everything anymore

is it people get less happy with age or... as time passes? because I feel like if you surveyed any age 20 years ago and that same age now, you would also see a decrease in happiness.

Im 39 and my 30s were sooo much happier than my 20s. I think its bc I never married,have no kids,have great friends and so many creative pursuits/interests

Often, with old age comes ill health, pain, loneliness (especially if spouse dies and family doesn't visit much), loss of freedoms (ability to drive, cook, have privacy, etc) as the body debilitates. The German graph seems correct to me.

The u-shape curve studies are from the early 2000s, when the majority of people could afford to retire and live in a home they own. More and more old people now are not financially secure and are still working or living in tenuous circumstances, or both.
