@magebymoonlight: Did you know Ireland is the birthplace of Halloween? 🎃 Samhain is a pagan festival rooted in the Celtic lands that has been observed here for thousands of years.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Samhain marks the midway point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. It was traditionally celebrated with rituals, bonfires, and feasting.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ During this time, doorways (especially burial mounds) between our physical world & the Otherworld become more accessible, allowing spirits to pass through more easily.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Samhain is a time for honoring the ancestors and beloved dead, as well as seeking protection from trickster spirits.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Many of the traditions we associate with Halloween today, including trick-or-treating & carving jack-o-lanterns (originally turnips, not pumpkins!) have roots in Irish customs.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In ancient times, Tlachtga (the Hill of Ward) in County Meath was the site of a great Samhain fire ritual.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The Loughcrew cairns (Slieve Na Calliagh, or the Hill of the Witch) are another ancient site associated with this festival. At Samhain, the sunrise illuminates a standing stone inside the chamber of Cairn L.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Similarly, the Samhain sunrise illuminates the inner chamber of the Mound of the Hostages at the Hill of Tara.
