1. Calories in and out is not the solution to losing fat in menopause. When you study menopause and what causes fat storage, visceral fat is a huge problem, and it’s not even really affected by calories. But things like cortisol, inflammation, and insulin are the real problems you need to address first. 2. You do not need to add protein to everything. You don’t need protein pancakes, protein smoothies and cottage cheese everything. And you def don’t need as much as everyone is telling you - that’s going to cause more problems in other ways. Your body probably isn’t doing much with it anyway. Fiber and protein together are the key. 3. Your Peloton, high-intensity, orange theory mentality is making you store fat. Yeah, I said it. The culture around exercise, especially for women in menopause, is backfiring. Your body is already fried from years of stress, your hormones have changed and your body doesn’t know if it’s running or fighting. It’s too intense and you do it too often. So it backfires and you store fat. More is not better. 4 - Weigh loss “shots”- will make you fatter and weaker long term. I know it’s tempting cuz all friends are talking about it. But here is the truth no one talks about. They won’t work well if your body is out balance and dysregulated. And yea maybe you can you lose some weight, sure. But at what cost? A large % of the weight lost is muscle and bone. Which both are already big problems in menopause. AND most people stop them and gain back most of the weight, now without the muscle. That makes you weaker, fatter, and more insulin resistant long term, which will in the end, make it harder to lose weight. It’s not worth it. 5 - Weight loss should NOT be hard. You’ve just had the wrong approach. Everyone is focused on losing weight, but weight gain is a symptom. But that’s like saying your flowers are dying because you’re not watering them, but you just pluck petals off or spray paint it — of course, it won’t work. It will feel hard.
