I'm not afraid of boredom, I'm afraid of how my dark thoughts start forming without constant stimulation and noise... whenever I'm in silence and 'inactive mode', the most depressing thoughts come up
my mind is a scary place 😂

does walking around induce the default mode network too or that's already too much stimulus?

I can attest this is very helpful. I’ve been recovering from brain surgery for a few weeks, which has forced me to avoid stimuli. I literally haven’t done that since the iPhone was invented. I’ve had some personal revelations and realizations. The default mode network is absolutely essential. Silence is golden.

So real. I’m an audiobook listener and I feel like I pretty much always have one playing in my ears no matter what I’m doing and rarely sit in silence

I start every day with a 30min-1hr walk. Lately I’ve removed my phone from the equation, and not only has my brain finally quieted down, but I’m hearing my own voice more frequently throughout the day—rather than whatever I read/listened to that morning. It really is this damn phone.

as a millennial who experienced a world without internet, I can confirm boredom/ stillness is where the wonders would come. it's like your a time for your mind to digest the information it has absorbed

This is SO true! It’s how to stay creative. I often cook in silence and I get so many ideas while doing so

Little "hack" I stumbled upon recently: I have a long commute and listen to audiobooks/npr/music most of the time. I switched that to "sleep music" ie. soft rain/waves/meditation music and my fricking brain activates! Im relaxing but also not its crazy!

great video, friend.✋🏾 nerospicy, and deathly afraid of boredom. that's when the maladaptive daydreaming and rumination eats away at me psyche🫡. thank you, though.

When I stayed with my paternal grandmother, we would sit outside after supper and said nothing, just watched the world around us. It was an amazing gift.

My dog came over and refused to leave me alone. Does it count if we commingled in each other’s intractable boredom? 😂

What about relaxed writing or art? What about yoga? I feel some activities can help you recenter and clear the slate like doing nothing can. Am I just flat out wrong? Genuinely curious...
