The fermi paradox is time. That's it. Life is everywhere, but separated by time. So there's absolutely aliens similar to us out there, but so far away, there's not enough time to discover them.

the universe is so astronomically huge that the total area that we can even remotely observe is so incredibly small, this would be the equivalent of dipping a cup into the ocean and wondering why there are no fish in it

There's one subtlety you're missing: what you're seeing is true about *active* extraterrestrial life. Extinct basic microbes on Mars actually are evidence that the great filter is behind us.

i think the Fermi "paradox" is answered by statistical rarity of *advanced* and *sentient* coupled with the speed of light/matter restrictions making it impossible to reach further stars/planets

But why must life resemble us? Why do we assume it’s on all on a path towards higher intelligence? Human-level intelligence is rare even on Earth and, in most environments, would actually be a disadvantage, it demands too many resources and can work against reproduction. I don’t see why the universe couldn’t be filled with bacteria-like organisms or plants that never needed to become self-aware.

I don't know why so few people talk about the Moon wrt the Fermi paradox. the Moon seems really rare, and it stabilizes Earth's tilt, making seasons reliable. it also provides large enough tides for a big tidal zone, critical to life evolving out of the ocean

thats an insane jump. we're still incredibly early in the lifespan of the universe, especially compared to the theoretical lifespan. its also entirely based on the assumption that the great filter hypothesis is the only possible solution.

..no? Life on Mars is clearly going to be less complex (otherwise we'd already found it) so they got less far than us. And secondly the fermi paradox just assumes FTL travel is possible and it definitely isn't.
